What are the benefits of a deep tissue massage?

I recently experienced severe pain in my knees due to overuse. My symptoms were joint pain, stiffness and swelling in the back of my knee. The long and cold winter climate in Sweden slowed down the healing process. To reduce the pain and the inflammation in my knees, I needed to take an "active" rest. First, I started treating it with the Ayurvedic herb Shallaki, which is known to keep the joints strong and ease them from any aggravation. It lessens the irritation as well as helps in decreasing the swelling. Further, I had regular massage treatments, which promotes faster healing by increasing the blood flow and reducing inflammation.

I can highly recommend a deep tissue massage. It’s a massage technique that is mainly used to treat musculoskeletal issues, such as trains and sports injuries. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues. This helps to break up scar tissue that forms following and injury and reduce tension in muscle and tissue.

Deep tissue massage offers both physical and psychological benefits. It helps to treat sport injuries (tennis elbow for example) with muscle pain and stiffness. It also improves the circulation to reduce swelling or buildup of fluid around the injury.

Ayurvedic therapy or treatment is administered as a combination of Ayurvedic herbs and appropriate diet, physical treatments and lifestyle changes that help balance the three principal energies of the body: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Treatments such as massages, reflexology or more classic Ayurvedic treatments are one important pillar of the healing process for mental and physical illness. 🤍
