What is the difference between Ayurveda and conventional medicine?

Updated: Feb 29

Ayurveda, an alternative natural medicine system, means knowledge of life and treats the body as a whole. I describe the healing process as becoming aware of the connection between the body, mind and spirit. Ayurvedic practitioners take into account your physical, mental and spiritual condition while treating the imbalance in your body. Based on the idea that disease is due to an imbalance or stress, Ayurveda encourages certain lifestyle interventions and natural therapies to restore balance between the body, mind and spirit. In other words, Ayurveda treats the root cause while conventional medicine treats the disease. The entire healing process takes time and requires patience. The body heals naturally step by step, starting with eliminating the most acute imbalance and then moving on to the next imbalance, layer by layer, ultimately eliminating the root cause. Ayurveda treatment starts with an internal cleansing process, followed by a special diet that needs to be adjusted during the healing process to heal one imbalance at the time depending on how deep the root cause is, herbal remedies, massage therapy, yoga, meditation and other wellness tools.

For me, Ayurveda and Wellness is a lifestyle. There was no going back to my old lifestyle once I felt and saw my body healing over time. I understood if I went back to my old habits, the imbalance in my body would return. Self-care and listening to my body, eating healthy, external treatments (massage, reflexology, reiki), mindfulness, breathwork, yoga and movement have been part of my daily life since I started this journey four years ago.

I am here to guide you on your healing journey and create a treatment plan specifically to your imbalances, but you are the one who does the work for your health. 🤍
